McDonald’s is bringing some heat to the breakfast menu! Starting July 8, fans can get their hands on a spicy twist of two of its most iconic breakfast sandwiches: the Egg McMuffin and the Sausage McMuffin (including the one with egg).
What makes them spicy? The Spicy Pepper Sauce — a bold, mayo-based spread made with habanero peppers. This sauce isn’t new to McDonald’s; it already adds a fiery kick to the Spicy McCrispy sandwich, and it’s known to bring more than just a mild sizzle.
“Most fast food chains play it safe when it comes to heat,” wrote a reviewer during an earlier taste test. “But McDonald’s Spicy Pepper Sauce delivers a PG-13 level of burn — and that’s a welcome surprise.”
🌶️ A Hot Trend Continues
McDonald’s has been dialing up the heat for a while now. From Spicy McNuggets to limited-edition sauces like Nether Flame, the fast-food giant is clearly leaning into spicy flavors — and customers are loving it.
Adding a spicy option to breakfast is a clever move. McMuffins usually come condiment-free, so the spicy mayo could bring a flavorful twist — even if it might get a bit messy.
🥪 A Breakfast Glow-Up?
This limited-time addition is a rare update to McDonald’s breakfast menu, which hasn’t seen much innovation lately (especially after parting ways with Krispy Kreme). A little extra heat on a morning sandwich may just be what fans need to shake up their usual order.
And while Herb Peterson, the inventor of the original Egg McMuffin, might not have imagined it with habanero sauce — we’d like to think he’d be glad people are still enjoying his creation in new, bold ways.
